Cedar Hill Food Pantry Wins Award

Cedar Hill Food Pantry marks 20th Year
as a member of the North Texas Food Bank

We in Cedar Hill are proud of how efficient and caring the Cedar Hill Food Pantry is operated.” Larry Meyne and Lillie Montgomery, two members of the board of directors, bragged at the North Texas Food Bank Annual Member Agency Conference held May 16, 2008. “We think it is the best in the west.”

Cedar Hill Food Pantry was one of only thirteen agencies out of the hundreds that serve thirteen counties in North Texas to receive the coveted Model Agency Award for 2008. This is the second time Cedar Hill Food Pantry has won this award in the past five years. Criteria for the Model Agency Award is based on staff members obtaining education from the Agency University, excellent monitoring visits, accurate and rapid accounting and reporting records, and participation in NTFB activities. Along with the honor comes a $700 credit for purchase of food from NTFB which equals to over two tons of food for Cedar Hill residents.

“The credit really goes to the wonderful volunteers, organizations and individuals that so generously support our work with time, money and products. I like to brag that the Board of Directors is the back bone of the organization. They support us and keep us straight. The donors are the blood of the organization that keeps the shelves full and doors open. Our wonderful volunteers that so diligently work to pick up food, stock shelves, sack groceries and serve our clients are the true heart that pumps the blood to keep everything going on a day to day basis. The love and dedication of my staff, Claudia Skocpol and Gunniga Charles shows in the faces of our volunteers and clients. Thank you one and all for making Cedar Hill Food Pantry one of the best in the west!” said Gene Sims, Executive Director. “I love you all.”

The five year plan of North Texas Food Bank has pledged to double in size and services. This could very well be the goal of Cedar Hill Food Pantry. We are excited about the possibility. If you have a heart for service and a couple hours a month you can help us reach this goal. Call 972-293-2822 to become a member of our volunteer team.
