Exciting News

Sharing the Bread is on the brink of one of the most exciting events of its existence.  As of April 3, 2014, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of North Texas, we are the proud owner of four acres of land at 406 S. Clark Road, Cedar Hill, TX. This will be the site of our new home. Plans are in the works to erect a 11,500 square foot building to house both New 2 You Thrift Store and Cedar Hill Food Pantry. We will be unveiling our capital campaign soon to raise the funds to build the building. We are in hopes to start construction in mid 2015.

Cedar Hill Food Pantry first opened its doors in 1989 in the kitchen of the First United Methodist Church serving a hand full of people. We soon outgrew that one room and moved to a much larger location of 1,000 square feet on Kenya Street. As the work of serving the needy of Cedar Hill grew so grew the need of more room for the Pantry. Land was donated in 1999 at 403 Houston St., labor and supplies were donated and in 2000 the doors opened for the current home of Cedar Hill Food Pantry.
At that time we had 3,800 points of contact with clients (each individual visit to the Pantry for food is one point of contact.) In 2013 we had 17,200 points of contact with clients. This is a 450% increase from 2000.

New 2 You Thrift Store opened its doors in 2006 to help support the mission of the Food Pantry. The Thrift Store is a great place for our neighbors to recycle their used clothes, household items and furniture that are sold at very reasonable prices back to the community with the net proceeds coming to the Food Pantry. It is located in a separate facility where we lease space. The single biggest expense for the Thrift Store is facility rental charges. We want to combine Cedar Hill Food Pantry and New 2 You Thrift Store in one owned facility for cost sharing, ease of management and to provide our clients and customers a one stop experience. In addition a large portion of the revenues from the Thrift Store would then be available to support the Food Pantry since we would no longer be paying rent.
